Michigan High
School Skating For the 2001 season, we have such great interest that we have divided the state into 3 districts. The schools in each district each field a High level team, and a Low level team, which compete separately. Teams participate in 4 initial-round competitions within their own District, then the victors from each district meet in a final Championship Competition in Birmingham. Three of the initial-round competitions in each district are Team Compulsory competitions. At these competitions, there are 3 events at each level - a jumps event, a spins event, and a moves event. In each event there are several required elements (for example, a Lutz, or a Flying Camel). Each team selects a single member to perform each required element. A single score is given to each team at the conclusion of each event, and an overall winner for each level is determined by combining the jump, spin, and moves scores. Season points are awarded based upon event and overall performance. One of the initial-round competitions is an Individual competition. At these, selected team members perform skating programs which are judged individually. The top three teams and top three individuals in each level, from each district will advance to the championship event.
